Billomat Review 2026

Veröffentlicht: Aktualisiert:

Das Wichtigste in Kürze

  • Invoicing and accounting software by aifinyo AG (publicly listed)
  • 3 plans: Professional from EUR 19, Business from EUR 29, Enterprise from EUR 99/month (net, annual)
  • Unique feature: Factoring and finetrading directly integrated
  • Professional plan without banking and DATEV - what you should know

Billomat has been around since 2007 and the software has evolved significantly over time. Since 2022, it belongs to the publicly listed aifinyo AG, which has an interesting side effect: Factoring, finetrading, and collection are directly integrated into the invoicing software. None of the other common providers offer this. Whether this is relevant for your business and where Billomat reaches its limits is what we clarify in this review.

What Billomat Can and Cannot Do

Billomat positions itself as invoicing and accounting software for self-employed and small businesses. In practice, the focus is clearly on invoicing. The accounting features are solid, but not as comprehensive as sevDesk or Lexware Office.

What Billomat Can Do

  • Create and send invoices, quotes, and reminders via email
  • E-invoices in XRechnung and ZUGFeRD format (all plans)
  • Automatic document recognition via OCR
  • Income statement (EUeR) and financial analysis (BWA) (from Business)
  • Online banking with automatic payment matching (from Business)
  • DATEV export and DATEV booking data service (from Business)
  • REST API for custom integrations
  • Factoring, finetrading, leasing, and collection via aifinyo
  • Mobile app for iOS and Android

What Billomat Cannot Do

  • No balance sheets or profit-and-loss statements (GuV)
  • No standard chart of accounts (SKR03/SKR04)
  • No payroll accounting
  • No time tracking
  • No customer portal for end customers
  • Professional plan: no banking, no DATEV, only 30 documents/month

Those looking for an EUeR solution with integrated invoicing and who want to factor invoices will find an interesting combination at Billomat. For companies requiring balance sheets or chart of accounts, the software is not suitable.

Plans and Pricing in Detail

Billomat offers three plans. All prices are net, VAT is added. There is no free permanent version, but a 14-day trial period.

Cancellation period: 14 days before contract end. Minimum term: 1 month. This is fair compared to many providers that require longer commitments.

What You Should Know About the Professional Plan

The Professional plan sounds attractive at EUR 19/month (annual). In practice, essential functions are missing: no banking, no DATEV export, no EUeR, and only 30 documents per month. Basically, it is a pure invoice tool. For complete accounting, you need at least the Business plan from EUR 29. Compared to Papierkram offers a free tier with more basic functions.

Factoring and Financing: The Unique Selling Point

What distinguishes Billomat from sevDesk, Lexware Office, or FastBill are the integrated financial services of parent company aifinyo:

  • Factoring: Get paid immediately for open invoices instead of waiting. aifinyo takes over the default risk.
  • Finetrading (purchase financing): Have supplier invoices prepaid. Available as an add-on for EUR 49/month with the Business plan.
  • Leasing: Lease equipment via aifinyo.
  • Collection: Professional receivables management if customers do not pay.

For companies with liquidity bottlenecks or long payment terms, this is a real advantage. Invoices are created in the software and can be submitted directly for factoring without changing providers.

E-Invoicing: XRechnung and ZUGFeRD

Since January 1, 2025, all companies in Germany must be able to receive electronic invoices. From 2027, sending will also become mandatory for many companies. Billomat supports both relevant formats in all plans:

  • XRechnung: XML file per EN 16931, required for public sector clients. Leitweg-ID is supported.
  • ZUGFeRD: PDF/A-3 with embedded XML. Special at Billomat: A ZUGFeRD invoice automatically contains a valid XRechnung.

That e-invoicing is included in the cheapest plan is a plus point. Some competitors only offer this in higher plans.

Tax Advisor Collaboration

The DATEV connection is available from the Business plan. Billomat offers both classic DATEV export and DATEV booking data service for direct data transfer. The tax advisor can receive their own access.

In the Professional plan, DATEV connectivity is completely missing. Anyone working with a tax advisor (and most self-employed do) must book at least the Business plan.

API and Integrations

The REST API is one of the reasons tech-savvy users choose Billomat. The Business plan provides 100 API calls per 15 minutes, the Enterprise plan offers 300 calls plus a sandbox environment for testing.

Available integrations include:

  • Shopify: Automatic invoice creation for orders
  • Zapier: Workflow automation with hundreds of other tools
  • aifinyo services: Factoring, finetrading, leasing, collection

Compared to BuchhaltungsButler or sevDesk, the selection of native integrations is smaller. Those who do not want to use Zapier must build custom integrations via the API.

The Company Behind Billomat

Billomat was founded as a startup in Nuremberg in 2007. In May 2022, aifinyo AG (founded in 2012 in Dresden by Stefan Kempf and Matthias Bommer) acquired all shares of the then Billomat GmbH and Co. KG. The acquisition was partially through purchase, partially through issuance of new aifinyo shares.

aifinyo AG is listed on the stock exchange (HRB 246794 B, AG Charlottenburg) and pursues a concept it calls "Smart Billment": invoicing, financing, and payment processing from a single source. Billomat is the central product for the invoicing side.

Data Security and Certifications

Billomat stores all data in ISO 27001 certified data centers in Germany. Contractual conditions are subject exclusively to German law. Certifications include:

  • GoBD-compliant: Audited per IDW PS 880 by interev GmbH (September 2019)
  • ISO 27001: Information security management
  • ISO 27018: Certification for secure cloud solutions
  • TUeV Saarland: Customer satisfaction seal Grade 1.8 (March 2020)
  • BITMi quality seal: Federal Association of IT SMEs

Those who need to protect digital data should additionally consider cyber insurance for SMEs Self-employed and freelancers often underestimate the risk of a cyber attack on their accounting data. Professional liability insurance is also recommended for freelancers and service providers.

Conclusion: When Is Billomat Worth It?

Billomat is not classic accounting software, but rather invoicing software with accounting features and integrated financing. Whether it is worth it depends on what you need:

  • Business plan (EUR 29/month annual): Suitable for self-employed and small businesses who value API, Shopify integration, and factoring options.
  • Enterprise plan (EUR 99/month annual): For teams of 5+ with high API needs and personal support.
  • Professional plan (EUR 19/month annual): Only suitable for pure invoicing. Without banking and DATEV, it is too limited for real accounting.

Those who want to use factoring or finetrading will find a unique combination at Billomat. Those who do not need it get more accounting features for less money with Lexware Office or sevDesk.

Billomat offers three plans (net): Professional at EUR 29/month (EUR 19 with annual contract), Business at EUR 39/month (EUR 29 annually), and Enterprise at EUR 119/month (EUR 99 annually). All plans include a 14-day free trial.

Billomat has been part of the publicly listed aifinyo AG based in Berlin since May 2022. Billomat was founded in 2007 in Nuremberg and is now part of the aifinyo Smart-Billment ecosystem, combining invoicing, factoring, and finetrading.

Billomat offers a REST API (100-300 calls per 15 minutes depending on plan), Shopify integration for e-commerce, and Zapier for workflow automation. Additionally, aifinyo services including factoring, finetrading, leasing, and collection are integrated.
